<description>TEACHERS’ TECHNIQUES IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILL FOR X- GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA YPVDP BONTANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023
WIJAYANTI, DWI WAHYU
Dwi Wahyu Wijayanti. 2023. “Teachers’ Techniques in Teaching Speaking Skill for X Grade Students at SMA YPVDP Bontang in the Academic Year of 2022/2023.” Thesis, English Language Education Study Program, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris State Islamic University of Samarinda. This research is under the guidance of Mrs. Dina Destari, S.S., M.Pd as the first advisor, and Mrs. Dra. Sitti Hadijah, M.Pd as the second advisor.&#13;
&#13;
Speaking, one of the four skills in English, is seen as the most essential skill for English learners to master. Most people’s success in learning can be seen by how well they can talk and communicate. In the teaching and learning process, teachers must have techniques in place to support the learning process and achieve specific characteristics. This research aims to find out the techniques used by English teachers in teaching speaking skills to tenth-grade students at SMA YPVDP Bontang in the academic year 2022/2023.&#13;
&#13;
The qualitative descriptive method was employed in this study. An English instructor at SMA YPVDP Bontang, who taught class X, was the focus of this investigation. Interviews and observations were used to gather data, which was subsequently analyzed utilizing interactive and condensation data models—utilizing data triangulation for data validation.&#13;
&#13;
Based on the study's results, the researcher found that teachers use three techniques, namely role play, small group discussions, and debates, to teach speaking skills. Role-playing techniques are applied during speaking lessons, and students are invited to practice the dialogue given to them by the teacher. Small group discussion techniques are used in teaching speaking, where students are invited to discuss in small groups a picture. Meanwhile, debate techniques are applied in speaking and teaching, and students are encouraged to think critically in an argument. These techniques are used by teachers to improve students' speaking skills. The result of this study is that teachers should use these three techniques to encourage the teaching and learning process, especially in speaking.

Anggeraini, Ria Dewi
Ria Dewi Anggeraini, 2023. “The Students’ Difficulties in Memorizing Vocabulary at Seventh Grade of MTs. Darussalam Boarding School Samarinda”. Thesis, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Tarbiyah Faculty, State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. This research was supervised by Mrs. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the first advisor and Mrs. Widya Noviana Noor, M.P as the second advisor.&#13;
&#13;
Vocabulary is at the heart of second language learning because it gives students access to spoken and written language. Low vocabulary knowledge will cause problems that can hinder and reduce students' motivation in learning and using English. The objective of this research was to determine students' difficulties in memorizing vocabulary, how they memorize vocabulary, and the internal and external factors that influence students' difficulties in memorizing vocabulary.&#13;
&#13;
This research uses a descriptive method that employs qualitative analysis for the research data. This study involved 42 students who were divided into two classes and English teachers at MTs. Darussalam Samarinda Islamic Boarding School, specifically the seventh grade. The research instruments were interviews and observations used to collect the data.&#13;
&#13;
The findings of this study revealed that students experienced difficulties in vocabulary including pronunciation, spelling, grammar, length and complexity, meaning, range, connotation, and idioms. The reason they experience these problems is due to ignorance in understanding vocabulary both in writing and pronunciation, as well as deficiencies in memorizing vocabulary. The ways students memorize vocabulary are reading, understanding context, relating words, making sentences, recording themselves, making flashcards, taking notes, playing games, and speaking. The factors that cause students' difficulties in memorizing vocabulary are internal factors and external factors.
