The background of this research is to find out if the teaching material book "Passport to the world 1" is worth using for the reading material of grade materials in English textbook “Passport to the World 1” because the textbook is used in teaching English for Seventh grade of Junior High School. The objectives of this research are to find out the kind of genre text contained in the reading text found in "Passport to The World 1" textbook for Seventh grade of Junior High School published by Penerbit PT Tiga Serangkai Pustaka Mandiri. and to find out the lexical density of reading texts in "Passport to The World 1" textbook for Seventh grade of Junior High School published by Penerbit PT Tiga Serangkai Pustaka Mandiri.
The method used in this research is library research. The approach of this research is descriptive qualitative. This research used content analysis technique. The instrument of this research is documentation checklist. The data are collected from reading texts found in English Passport to the World 1 an English Course textbook. There are 10 reading texts which are analyzed.
The result of the analysis are (1) There are five genres in the textbook; they are narrative, descriptive, hortatory, report, and spoof, and these genres fulfilled the Schoolbased Curriculum 2013 (K13) of English syllabus requirement; and (2) The lexical density of most reading texts in the textbook are around 3.02-3.61 (quite/average lexical density). It means, most of reading texts in the textbook are not difficult to understand and suitable for eleventh grade students of Junior High School. | en_US |
