Descriptive Study of Students’ Interest in Learning English of The Eighth Grade at SMPN 34 Samarinda in Academic Year 2018/2019

Abstract

M. Aidil Rahman, Descriptive Study of Students’ Interest in Learning English of The Eighth Grade at SMPN 34 Samarinda in Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis, Department of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training, State Islamic Institute of Samarinda. Under supervision Bahrani, M. Pd as the first advisor, and Dra Sitti Hadijah, M. Pd as the second Advisor. The interest is very important in learning English, some of students who are lazy educational activity, it can be caused by one of factors that is low interest. The students did not get a spirit for learning. This research is purposed to know the students’ interest in english learning of eight class at junior high school 34 Samarinda. This research is to gain information about students’ interest in English learning of eight class at junior high school 34 Samarinda This research is using quantitative approach. The technique of collecting data is questionnaire, observation, and documentation. The population is the eight class students at junior high school 34 Samarinda, 216 students.The sample are 68 students of eight class, class A until class G. The reseacher used random sampling for getting the samples. Research finding showed that students’ interest in english learning of the eighth class is good and this statement is gotten from the mean result 2.89 of interpretation data.
