This research is under guidanced of Dr. Umar Fauzan M.Pd and Dini Irawati, M.Pd Writing is often considered as one of the most complex skills for students of English as a second or foreign language asked to master. At school, writing is one of the materials that must be learned by all students. Based on syllabus of Curriculum 2013, there are several kinds of text that should be mastered by the students of senior high school. They are descriptive, report, explanation, procedure, narrative, recount and etc. The objective of the research is to know students difficulties writing descriptive texts at the fisrt grade of SMAN 1 Sanga-sanga in academic year 2019/2020 This research used qualitative research. The main instruments are test and interview. The technique of collecting data are test and interview. The data analysis technique used percentage formula. Researcher asked student to write descriptive text and gave them interview to know difficulties faced by students in writing descriptie text. The result of the study showed that Student difficulties in SMAN 1 Sangasanga are grammar, vocabulary and mechanic component. Students do not know how to make sentences with good and correct grammar. students do not have a lot of vocabulary in English and they are not get used to writing English and made errors in spelling and punctuation.There were 77% students had difficulty in making sentences from the draft that had been given. 74% students have difficulty arranging English sentences. There were 59% students are interested and happy in writing activities even though they are still difficult to make good sentences, 59% students feel they do not have much vocabulary in English and 55% students did not write descriptive in a good sentence structure.
