Semantic is the branch of linguistics. In accordance to the meaning of semantic, semantic is the studies about meaning. So many kind of meaning, among other lexical and contextual meaning. The lexical meaning is the meaning according to the dictionary or a direct specific of a word, and the contextual meaning is the meaning according to the context. The objectives of the research are to explain the lexical and contextual meaning of word in the lines of poem entitled ―Phenomenal Woman‖ by Maya Angelou.
This research used a descriptive qualitative because the researcher would analysis and interpret the research object of the lines the poem entitled ―phenomenal Woman‖ by Maya Angelou. The first step obtaining the data is by collecting the source of the data from internet. After that the researcher chose the lines which contain of semantic. Then, the researcher read all the stanza in order to understand the content of the lines. The next step was conducted, collected the data and analyzed with the table and make conclusion.
The researcher concluded that the readers in reading terms have to know not only lexical meaning but also contextual meaning. The researcher showed that the meaning of the term used in lines of poem entitled ―Phenomenal Woman‖ by Maya Angelou from lexicon or general dictionary was fairly different from the meaning in the context. Contextual meaning is different from lexical meaning. Contextual meaning is the terms explained the actual meaning according to the situation in which they were used. In this case,the situation meant above was terms in lines of ―Maya Angelou‖. Thus, in this discussion interested event unique to learned in order to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpreting. | en_US |
