The background of this research is to analyze the kinds of sentences that dominate used or produced by students’paragraph writing at the third semester from International Class of IAIN Samarinda. As we know in Indonesia English has been though from elementary school to university level. It has four skill should be mastered by students, those are writing, speaking, reading and listening. In this research the researcher wanted to know students’ paragraph writing quality in descriptive paragraph at third semester from International Class of IAIN Samarinda.
The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was taken from 6 students of International Class at the third semester of IAIN Samarinda. The researcher did documentation instrument The data were types sentence that dominate produced by students in their paragraph writing.The research objective of this study are to find out the kinds of sentences that used in paragraph writing and to know the dominate of sentence that used in paragraph writing made by students of International Class of IAIN Samarinda.
Based on the data were findings showed that simple sentence are mostly used by students in their paragraph writing. It is 24 of 40 sentences or 60% found in this case. The second most commonly sentence used by student was compound sentence it is 12 of 40 sentences or 30% and the last was complex sentence that there were only 4 of 40 complex sentences or 10% found. So it means that majority of the sample reported that they perceived simple sentence as the easiest types of sentences to produce followed by compound sentence and complex sentence as the less easy.
