The background of this research is to know the speaking achievement at the third grade of SMK Plus Melati Samarinda. The present research were aimed at describing speaking achievement (on four components of speaking: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency) at the third grade of SMK Plus Melati Samarinda, especially in telling procedure.
In doing the research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative design with quantitative approach which the researcher found out and explain the data of students’ speaking achievement by using Mean and Percentage. The subject of this research was the third grade of ICT program of SMK Plus Melati Samarinda
in academic year 2017/2018 that consist of 11 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used speaking test (monologue) as instrument. The researcher asked every student 7 minutes for doing classroom speaking performance in telling procedure. The researcher classified students’ speaking achievement based on component of speaking such as pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency. In analyzed of the data, the researcher doing assessment by two raters. The data was analyzed to obtain the result of the research. Then the researcher used descriptive statistics. The researcher counted average score, classified students’ score in each components of speaking into five categories such as (excellent, very good, good, fair, and weak) and measured students’ speaking achievement in telling procedure based on the comparative final score of the speaking test.
Based on Mean score on each component of speaking, the result of research showed that, the students’ speaking achievement in telling procedural at the third grade of SMK Plus Melati Samarinda was in pronunciation 31.63 on “Good” category, vocabulary 17.72 on “Good” category, grammar 22.40 on “Very Good” category, and fluency 25 on “Good” category. There were 4 students who got score between 95-100 (Excellent), 1 student who got score between 85-94 (Very Good), 3 students who got score between 80-84 (Good), 3 students who got score between 71-79 (Fair), and there is no student who got score 65-70 (Poor). So, in conclusion, based on the comparative final score between two raters of the speaking test above, the students’ speaking final score of the test was 86.77. It was on the range between 85-94. It means that the students’ speaking achievement of SMK Plus Melati Samarinda in academic year 2017/2018, especially in telling procedural was “Very Good” criteria. | en_US |
