dc.description.abstractABSTRACT Mayasari Anggraeni, 2017. Semantic Analysis in the Lyrics of Justin Beiber Song entitled “Pray”. Under-Graduate Degree. Thesis, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Tarbiyah Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Samarinda. This research is under guidance of Mohammad Muklis, M. Hum and Rostanti Toba, M. Pd. Semantic is the branch of linguistic. In accordance to the meaning of semantic, semantic is studies about meaning. So many kind of meaning, among other denotative and contextual meaning. The denotative meaning is the meaning according to the dictionary or a direct specific of a word, and the contextual meaning is the meaning according to the context. However, mastery in understanding the meaning of a song is not easy for the listener. Hence, the denotative and contextual meaning of the word makes fundamental changes to the meaning of the word and focus on the verb only. The objective of the research are included the denotative and contextual meaning of word in the lyrics of Justin Beiber’s song entitled “Pray” which focus on the verb. This study uses a descriptive qualitative design because the researcher would analysis and interpret the research object of the lyrics of Justin Beiber song entitled “Pray”.The step to obtain the data is by collecting sources of the data from internet. After that the researcher chose the lyrics which contain of semantic. Then, the researcher read and listened to the lyrics in order to understand the content of the lyrics. The next step was conducted, collected the data and analyzed with the table and make conclusion. The research conclusion showed that the lyrics Justin Beiber song entitled “Pray” consist denotative and contextual meaning, denotative meaning can be find in verb, adverb, adjective, pronoun, etc and same of contextual meaning can be find in verb, adverb, adjective, pronoun, etc. So, both of meaning was easily to analysis.en_US
