Vocabulary learning is critical in English language teaching because vocabulary directly influences skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. However, due to the limited vocabulary, students have difficulties understanding reading, understanding the meaning of spoken language, compiling texts into English, or communicating in English. By choosing appropriate and efficient learning media, teachers can achieve educational goals more effectively. This research aims to determine the impact of Wordwall media on vocabulary mastery in eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Samarinda.
This research used quasi-experimental research with a quantitative method, with a research design of a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. In sampling, the researcher used a cluster sampling technique with a total sample of this research being 70 students, consisting of 35 students as the experimental class and 35 students as the control class. Data collection was carried out by distributing pre-tests and post-tests which consisted of 25 multiple choice items for each test. This research used validity and reliability tests to test the validity of the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the t-test (independent sample t-test).
Based on the results, it showed an increase in students’ learning outcomes after learning using Wordwall, with students’ learning outcomes based on the average post-test for the experimental class of 78.74 and the control class of 70.40. As for the results of the independent sample t-test, there is a Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.003. This Sig. (2-tailed) value < 0.05. It showed that there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. It can be concluded that there is an impact of Wordwall media on vocabulary mastery in the eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Samarinda in the academic year of 2024/2025.
