STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF UTILIZING GRAMMARLY ON THE WRITING PROFICIENCY OF FIFTH SEMESTER STUDENTS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH EDUCATION AT UINSI SAMARINDA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025

Shafa, S.PdI., M.Pd. as the first supervisor, and Mrs. Anis Komariah, M.Pd. as the second supervisor.
Perception is defined as the process by which individuals interpret and comprehend sensory information from their surrounding environment. Writing proficiency is defined as the capacity to write in a clear, effective, and skillful manner. Grammarly is a valuable resource for students seeking to enhance their writing abilities. This may bolster students' motivation and engagement in the learning process, particularly during the writing process. This research aimed to investigate the students’ perception of utilizing Grammarly on the writing proficiency and find out whether utilizing Grammarly help students’ writing proficiency.
This research employed quantitative research with descriptive analysis. The participants were all fifth semester students in the Department of English Education at UINSI Samarinda. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The data collection technique used the distribution of 26-question questionnaires via Google Form, and the data analysis technique used descriptive frequency statistics to analyze student perceptions.
The results showed that students perceive positive perception of utilizing Grammarly on the writing proficiency and positively perceive that Grammarly help students to writing proficiency. Students feel motivated and confident in writing proficiency. The engaging features of correcting grammar errors, punctuation, and language style help students avoid errors associated with proficient writing.
