Abstract
Fathan Gustiawan, 2024. "The Effectiveness of the Drama Script to Increase the Speaking Ability of Grade IX Students at SMP Plus Salsabila Samarinda". Thesis, Tadris English Study Program, Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris State Islamic University Samarinda. Advisor 1: Rostanti Toba, M.Pd and Advisor 2: Nadia, M.Pd. M.TESOL. The students' speaking ability at SMP Plus Salsabila Samarinda was relatively low. This was due to a lack of speaking practice and also inappropriate learning methods. This research aims to determine the use of drama scripts in learning English and to determine the effectiveness of using drama scripts on students' speaking ability. Therefore, the researcher used drama script to be applied in classroom learning. The research that carried out at SMP Plus Salsabila Samarinda, the population in this research namely grade IX students. The research used experimental method type quasi-experimental using a quantitative approach. Pre-test and post-test were used in this research to determine the effectiveness of using the drama script. Data analysis was carried out using the t-test and N-gain calculation to see its effectiveness. The results of the research explain that the speaking abilities of grade IX students in the experimental class have increased, with a medium level of effectiveness. This can be seen from the pre-test score of 51.11 which increased to 68.56. In contrast to the control class which only used conventional learning methods, it obtained a pre-test score of 51.50 and 54.00 for the post-test score. After learning using the drama script in the experimental class, it can be concluded that the drama script was effective to be applied in English language learning in the classroom to increase students' speaking ability.
