One of the basic problems in teaching foreign language is writing. Most of their reason are the method in the teaching writing is not interesting and the less of chance for taking exercise in making paragraph. To solve this problem, the teachers should have creative activity and alternative ways. One of the alternative is using diary.
This research was carried out to know whether there is an improvement in learning writing recount text through diary in second grade junior high school of MTs Al Mujahidin 2 Samarinda. The subjects of this research were consisted of 21 students
The research applied Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research was conducted on September 2016. The research was conducted in two cycles, every cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The instrument were used in this research were observation checklist, field notes and writing test.
The result of this research showed, that there was improvement from the implementation of diary in teaching writing recount text. The students’ mean score of preliminary study was 69,23, the researcher gained 5 students or 23,80% who passed the Minimum Competence Criterion Standard. The students’ mean score of cycle 1 was 72,85 the researcher gained 10 students or 47,61% who passed the Minimum Competence Criterion Standard. The students’ writing score of cycle 2 was 76,38 the researcher gained 16 students or 76,19% who passed the Minimum Competence Criterion Standard. In addition students’ response to learn was positive. It can be seen that using of diary was effective. It could be conclude that the implementation of diary could improve students’ writing ability at second grade of MTs Al Mujahidin 2 Samarinda.
