Learning English ideally consists of four skills. They were listening, speaking, reading and writing. All of them were interrelated from one another someone who masters four speaking of English will be able to communicate in oral or written easily. In fact, speaking English was not easy. Speaking was an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing, receiving, and processing information.
This research was conducted on the eighth grade students at SMP AlKhairiyah Samarinda. In this research, the researcher wanted to know the problems in learning English speaking of eighth grade students at SMP AlKhairiyah Samarinda in Year 2016/2017. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The focus of this research was to describe the problems in speaking faced by the eighth grade students at SMP Al-Khairiyah Samarinda. The sample in this research was VIII-A, and VIII-B students. The subject in this research was the seven students and one teacher. The data were obtained through the observation and interview.
Based on the observation and interview, the students faced some problems related to pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary. The observation also showed additional findings where students faced other problems, namely: low self-confidence, afraid of making mistakes, lazy bring a dictionary, shyness to speak and bored in the class. There were some factors resulting problems of speaking to the students, they were lack of reading habit, did not pay attention to the teacher, did not have the motivation, did not like learning to speak English, and confusion an applying grammar rules. | en_US |
