This research is under guidance of Mohammad Muklis, M.Hum as advisor I and Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as advisor II.
The background of study this research is the researcher want to know the process of learning English in speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda. The present research were aimed at describing the teaching speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samrinda, especially on four aspects: 1) the developing lesson plans in the teaching of speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda, 2) the selecting techniques of teaching speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda, 3) the implementation of teaching speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda, 4) the evaluation of teaching speaking at SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda.
This research uses qualitative design. Data source in this study is an English teacher who taught in seventh grade in SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda. Techniques of collecting data is done through observation checklist, interview guide, and documentation. Then the data are analyzed descriptive qualitative by using steps as follows: data collection, data reduction, data display, and veryfying data.
The result of this study indicate that, 1) In developing lesson plans, the English teacher of SMP Islam Bunga Bangsa Samarinda had includes syllabus and materials’ book, it had considered the instructional material that will be used in the learning based on student’s need and general instructional objective based on National Curriculum, 2) In selecting the techniques of teaching speaking, the teacher had used observed in the class then selected the suitable techniques based on the characteristic of students, 3) In implementation of teaching speaking, the teacher using the techniques such as; role play, dicussion, presentation, and also using songs and games in learning, 4) In evaluation of teaching speaking, the teacher used formative and summative test and for speaking subject, the teacher made note to evaluate the result of speaking performance. The researcher expects this research will be useful for other researchers who are want to know more about teaching speaking. Moreover, Speaking is the most important in language to communicate with others.
