Abstract
ABSTRACT Sulastuti, 2017. “The Effectiveness of Using Mind Mapping in Students’ Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text at the Second Grade Students of MTs Al-Mujahidin 2 Samarinda in Academic Year 2017/1018”. Thesis, English Department, Under-Graduate Degree, State Islamic Institute of Samarinda. Advisers: (1) Mohamad Muklis, M.Hum, (2) Sari Agung Sucahyo, M.Pd. Research background of this research is the researcher would like to implement and see the impact of mind mapping in students reading comprehension of narrative text at the second grade students of MTs AL-Mujahidin 2 Samarinda. The objective of this research is to find the effectiveness of mind mapping in students’ reading comprehension achievement, especially for narrative text at the second grade students of MTs AL-Mujahidin 2 Samarinda in academic year 2017/2018. The subjects of this research were 68 students. Experimental research was used as a design in this research and this research use populational research. This research was carried out in two classes, they are the controlled class and the experimental class. The data were gathered through multiple choices tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of this research showed that the mind mapping technique is effective to use in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text. Gained score of the experimental class (79.9) is higher than the controlled class (71.8). From the result of statistic calculation, it is obtained that the value of t-observation (to) is 3.738 and degree of freedom (df) is 66. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of significance is 2,000. Comparing those values, the result is 3.738 > 2,000 which means t-observation (to) score is higher than t-table (tt) score. In other word, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching reading comprehension of narrative text by using mind mapping technique is effective.
