English has four skills they are listening, reading, writing and speaking. Listening is the one of skill that must be mastered. As we know that song always follow us everywhere and almost of students like listening a song included English song. English songs are great language package that bundles culture, vocabulary, listening and grammar. Songs can also provide a relaxed lesson on a boring day. Based on the statements above, there are many reasons why the researcher chooses listening skill in this research.
The objective of this research was to find the effectiveness of using English song in students’ listening achievement at the eleventh grade students of MA AL-Mujahidin Samarinda in academic year 2017/2018.
The population of this research were 48 students. Experimental research was used as a method in this research. This research was carried out in two classes, they were the controlled class and the experimental class. The data were gathered through tests filling gap which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test.
The result of this research showed that the English song technique was effective to use in teaching listening achievement. Gained score of the experimental class (84,3) was higher than the controlled class (73,8). The result of this research shows the value of t-test (5,672) was higher than t-table (2,013) at the significance level 5%, it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Thus, teaching listening by using English song was better than the students teaching listening without using English song.
