The Effectiveness Of Using “Listen English Practice” Application In Improving English Listening Skill Of Eighth Grade Students At MTs. Al- Misra Samarinda Year 2024/2025

Listening skills are one of the important aspects of learning English that is often overlooked. In the context of learning at MTs. Al-Misra Samarinda, students often have difficulty understanding English material delivered orally. To overcome this, this research aims to (1) determine the use of the "Listen English Practice" application in improving the English listening skills of eighth grade students at MTs. Al-Misra Samarinda in the 2024/2025 academic year and (2) to identify whether there is effectiveness using the “Listen English Practice” application in improving the English listening skills of eighth graders at MTs. Al-Misra Samarinda. This research used a true quasi-experimental design with a post-test only control group. The sample included 64 eighth-grade students divided into two groups: the experimental class, which utilized the "Listen English Practice" application, and the control class, which was taught using lecture teaching method. Listening skill tests were used to collect data, with pre-tests and post-tests conducted. SPSS software was used to conduct data analysis, which included descriptive statistical tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, in the control class the average score from 34.53 increased to 62.50. While in the experimental class, the average score from 45.94 increased to 85.16. In addition, there was a significant difference between the post-test results of the experimental and control groups, with a p-value <0.05. Students in the experimental group showed a higher increase in listening skills than the control group. This proves that the use of the "Listen English Practice" application is effective in improving students' listening skills. This research recommends the application as an alternative learning medium to support English teaching, especially in improving listening skills.
