Utilizing Digital Tools for Vocabulary Acquisition in English Learning of The Eleventh Grade Students at SMA Plus Melati Samarinda in Academic Year 2024/2025

English is important in modern times. It is one of the most extensively utilized international languages for communication and has to be studied in the digital era school. Students face many problems during the English learning process, one of the most common obstacles is students' limited vocabulary. This research focuses on comprehensively exploring what technology is now prevalent and how to utilize digital tools for vocabulary acquisition in English subjects. This research aims to (1) discover the kinds of digital tools utilized for vocabulary acquisition of the eleventh-grade students at SMA Plus Melati Samarinda in the academic year 2024/2025. And to (2) explore students’ experiences of using digital tools for acquiring English vocabulary in learning English of the eleventh-grade students at SMA Plus Melati Samarinda in the academic year 2024/2025. This research used a qualitative research method. The approach to conduct this research was a descriptive qualitative design. The data was collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. This research used data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion as data analysis techniques. The participants were students and an English teacher in SMA Plus Melati Samarinda. The result showed that eleventh-grade students at SMA Plus Melati Samarinda utilized various digital tools to support their English vocabulary mastery. The most frequently used digital tools include Google Search, Google Translate, and social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. In addition, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based applications such as Duolingo are used for vocabulary practice through gamification methods. These findings show that the students’ experiences with digital tools are varied, but many found them helpful and more motivated to learn English vocabulary. However, some students felt that technology, especially AI, sometimes did not suit their learning style, which could reduce interest or even increase stress. Overall, however, students acknowledged that using digital tools enriched their learning and gave them easier access to new vocabulary.
