Analyzing Generic Structure Of Recount Text Written At Eighth-Grade Students Of MTs Sulaiman Yasin In Academic Year 2024/2025

Writing is one of the important basic skills in English. Writing skill can help students to convey their ideas and opinion clearly through structured texts. In writing, there are several genres that are taught in the school. One of them is a recount text. However, in practice, the researcher still found that students faced challenges in writing appropriate generic structure when composing recount text. The objective of this research was to analyze the generic structure of recount text written at eighth-grade students of MTs Sulaiman Yasin. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze generic structure of recount text written by students. The subjects of this research were 10 eighth-grade students who were selected using purposive sampling based on the criteria of English score variation with information obtained from the teacher. The data of this research were the recount text of eighth-grade students which were collected using documentation techniques and then analyzed using Hyland's theory. The data analysis techniques involved data condensation, data display, and conclusion from Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results of the research showed that the generic structure written by students was complete in the orientation and series of events sections, but incomplete in the reorientation section due to the missing components. This research implies that explicit teaching using authentic texts and appropriate modeling is important to help students understand in generic structure of recount text learning.
